Stars for Wounded Warriors

Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 9:24PM

Come join Ice Stars for Wounded Warriors this Friday and Saturday and help us celebrate and support those who have served our country!

All of our proceeds from the events are being donated to THE ONE FUND BOSTON and the WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT.

This is an event designed to HONOR and THANK those who have sacrificed themselves for our nation. This is the first year we have decided to extend our charity beyond the Wounded Warrior Project, due to the tragedies that have occurred in our home city in the past week. We will be splitting all donations between the Wounded Warrior Project and The One Fund Boston.

Despite the exhaustion that Boston is currently enduring, the BOSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL STILL BE ATTENDING. Please come and show your support for them, if nothing else, as they kick off our hockey tournament Friday afternoon.

Schedule of events:
FRIDAY 4/26
5:00 - Hockey Tournament - First game: BOSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

SATURDAY 4/27
9:00 - Hockey tournament (continued)
3:00 - Parade around the UMass Campus
7:00 - Ice Skating Show

We will be joined by several Olympians, Paralympians, ROTC units, veterans, law enforcement units, fire departments, and many more. Between the two days, we are aiming to achieve unity among our community while sharing love for our country, and for those who have devoted their lives to protect our freedom.

Tickets are available at the Mullins Center Box Office or at ticket master - http://www.ticketmaster.com/Ice-Stars-for-Wounded-Warriors-Celebration-tickets/artist/1837390?tm_link=artist_artistvenue_module.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for kids (one ticket gets you into all the hockey games, another ticket is required for the Ice Skating Show). Free admission for children of military families (with ID).

Springfield  Pics Jr. Program and Springfield Rifles Hockey Organization Announce Formal Alliance

West Springfield, Mass (March 11, 2013) – The Springfield Pics junior hockey program and the Springfield Rifles hockey organization announce a formal alliance for the 2013-2014 season.
All teams will play out of the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield,Mass.

The Springfield  Pics were recently accepted into the newlyformed United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) at the U16 and U18levels.  These 2 full season teams will compete as the Springfield Rifles.

In addition to the current Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL-Jr. A), Empire Junior Hockey League (EmJHL-Jr.B) and (USPHL) for the U16 and U18 teams the Springfield Rifles offer full season programs from Learn to Skate through Bantam Major competing in the Hockey Northeast League.   The Springfield Rifles also have national recognized and national bound U14, U16
and U18 split season teams at the Tier I and Tier II levels.

The EJHL-Jr. A team will continue to be called the Springfield Pics and be coached and managed by Patrick Tabb.  Pat Tabb will be the GM for the Empire Jr. B, U18 and U16 full season Springfield Rifles teams.

The full season Bantam Major Team is a unique program.  After the two split Bantam
Major Teams complete their season in November the teams will combine.  The second half team will be coached by Kevin Kervick (U16/U18 Tier1 split season midget coach).  The team will play an aggressive prep school schedule that includes 2 tournaments.

For the first time in years Western Mass and Northern Ct players,
Mites through Jr. A, (including Cathedral and other top high school programs)
will play under the same roof at Olympia Ice Center.  Youth development will include power skating, goalie clinics and skill sessions by guest instructors.

“ On behalf of myself , Scott Daniels, Rob Bonneau, Vern Smith and the Pics program we look forward to working with the Rifles and their staff to bring the local hockey community a great opportunity. This alliance provides the student athlete a complete hockey avenue from mites to juniors. No matter what path these student athletes are looking to take to achieve their
goals we now provide them with the teams to achieve that." said Patrick Tabb, Jr. GM/Head Coach, Springfield Pics.

Brian Foley, Springfield Rifles, said, “I am excited to work together with Patrick Tabb and his coaching staff. This partnership will provide stability to players and parents in pursuit of their hockey goals.”

Pee Wee Major Hockey Northest 2012-2013 Season Champions

Sunday, March 3, 2013, 9:33PM

The Springfield Rifles Pee Wee Major (2000) team won the AAA Hockey Northeast League Championship this past weekend at the Olympia Ice Center.  The Rifles finished the regular season in second place with a 20-7-5 record in Hockey Northeast’s inaugural season.  The 2nd seeded Rifles earned a bye in the 1st round of the play-offs then won a hard fought battle with the Neponset Valley River Rats on Saturday evening, 2 to 1.   In the Championship game, the Rifles faced the 6th seeded Valley Jr. Warriors.  The Jr. Warriors were fresh off a 14 game winning streak to include knocking off the Connecticut Wolfpack (3rd seed) and Boston Jr. Bruins (1st seed) in their first two play-off games on Saturday.  The Jr. Warriors took early 2 to 0 and 3 to 2 leads in the Championship game but the Rifles battled back to force the game into overtime.    Shortly into the 4 on 4 overtime, the Rifles were able to capitalize on a shot from the point to claim the organizations first league title.

Head Coach John Barron states, “I am really proud of the effort our boys put forward this weekend and all season long.  These kids have really come together as a team over the past several months and they were able to put their best games together when it counted most.  We have prided ourselves on putting 17 players in tough game situations all year long, and I’m proud of the way each of them was able to step it up when it counted.  This was a true team effort.”
